Burnout

A few weeks ago at our last All-Staff Meeting, our Pastor of Counseling, Brad Hambrick talked to us about “Burnout.” It was one of, if not the THE best talk I’ve ever heard on Signs of Burnout/Burnout Prevention. So much of the truth he taught us that day is still running circles in my head. I told Brad after his talk that I’m pretty sure he just signed himself up for 150 counseling sessions, all from our staff! Below is just a very small sample, not doing justice to his entire talk. We’re hoping that we can provide the video of Brad’s session at some point on a public forum. If it becomes available, I’ll make sure to post it, and you should make plans on watching it.

“Burnout is the product of our entire life management.” – BH
“If something  becomes a way of life that is not sustainable, it will lead to burnout. It’s unhealthy.” -BH

Prevent Burnout (Not the entirety of his points)

  • Practice stillness in your life.
  • Have non-functional friendships (friends who relate to you because of YOU, not because of your position.)
  • Pay attention when pleasurable things aren’t pleasurable. (Think about a hobby that no longer is enjoyable because you’re always thinking about the next thing on your list of things to do, etc..)
  • Listen to your family. PERIOD.
  • Listen to how you read your bible/pray. This says a lot!

PS: In case you haven’t noticed, we’re in the process of launching this new site. It’s not completely finished yet, as we still have some things to work out. I hope it will serve as a great place and resource for you!
